We are getting ready to celebrate our two-year anniversary. I can't believe how quickly time is moving. Since it's been over a year, here's a quick overview of what we've been up to:
Personal
- Kari resigned from UNC Charlotte after 7 years of working in college residence halls, at three different universities. While the plan was to move up a position in housing, God has had better plans in the works! Kari is currently in the middle of switching careers to college/young adult ministry.
- We lived on campus because of Kari's job, so that meant we had to find a new place to live! In June 2008, we moved 10 miles from campus and are renting a nice townhouse. It's been fun for Kari to learn what off-campus living is like! :)
- Erik coached another season of Upward Basketball, this time with 4th-6th graders. He is so patient and good with the kids!
- James Taylor came back to Charlotte, marking Kari's FIFTH time seeing her favorite musician in concert! Shaun and Darcy came with us.
Family
- We're going to be an aunt and uncle, and are so excited! Both of our sisters are due with their first babies this fall. Erik's sister and brother-in-law, Krista and Spencer, are expecting in October. They aren't finding out what they're having, and they aren't sharing the names, either! Kari's sister and brother-in-law, Kristen and Daniel, are expecting a baby girl in November. They haven't finalized her name yet, but there was a bit of a surprise when Kari and Kristen found out they both liked the same name for their first girl!
- We've made a few trips to see our family, and they've come to see us, too. Even though we live so far apart, it's good to get together to laugh and have fun!
- We love how much we get to travel! It's really important to us to see our family and friends, so we don't mind jumping in the car to see the country.
- Pennsylvania, Labor Day 2007. Erik and I went with his family to celebrate his Grandma's 85th birthday.
- NYC, Oct 2007. Went with our friends Shaun, Darcy and Clint to visit Eric. This was Kari's first trip to NYC, and she is obsessed! We all went to see "The Drowsy Chaperone" on Broadway! Here is a picture of us in Harlem at Marcus Garvey park.
- Atlanta, Nov 2007. Ashley, one of Kari's Clemson RAs, got married, so we got to see lots of our Clemson family!
- Indianapolis, Dec 2007. Kristen and Daniel were also home for Christmas.
- Omaha, Dec 2007. We flew out to see Krista and Spencer ... in the cold and snow!
- North Myrtle Beach, SC, March 2008. Easter with our friends Shaun, Darcy, Clint and Tara.
- Washington, D.C., Memorial Day weekend 2008. Visited Kari's Clemson RA, Melinda. We also went to Mt. Vernon, Washington's home, which we did not even know existed. This is a must-see!
- Oak Island, NC, June 2008. We took a really nice vacation with Erik's family and family friends the first week of June 2008. Ten of us shared one beach house and had a blast at the ocean, especially when we went crabbin'. Kari got a really nice tan, as always ... but also cut her foot and had to get three stitches!
- Lake Wateree, SC, Aug 2008. Shaun's 30th Birthday weekend.
- Indianapolis, Aug 2008. A baby shower for Kristen and Daniel!
- We took a few trips to Lincolnton/Augusta, GA, to see Erik's Grandma this year. She gave us some plants from her garden, and also some homegrown Georgia pecans!
- We also took many trips to Greenville, SC. We see our Greenville friends at least once per month. Sometimes we meet halfway, and sometimes they come here. They are such a special part of our lives! We are planning a trip to London in 2010! :)
- Kari's cousin and two sets of our friends live in Winston-Salem, NC. We went up there a few times to visit as well.
We are continuously amazed by the blessings from God. We can't wait to see what else is in store! :)
